A man was stabbed and another was robbed Sunday night on Shoreline Drive near the Pike Outlets in Downtown, Long Beach police said.

The crime happened around 8 p.m., according to LBPD spokesman Brandon Fahey. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed in the upper body. His wounds weren’t life threatening, Fahey said.

The victim told police he was approached by another man, resulting in an argument that escalated into the violence, Fahey said.

Fahey said a security guard for a nearby construction site attempted to break up the incident and the suspect attempted—and failed—to also stab the guard. However, the suspect was able to steal the guard’s cell phone, according to police.

The stabbing victim refused medical treatment at the scene, Fahey said.

The suspect fled on foot before police arrived, according to LBPD. The investigation is ongoing.
