Long Beach police were investigating after getting reports of gunfire in the Hellman neighborhood Thursday night, officials said.

The shooting happened around 10:20 p.m. at 10th Street and Gardenia Avenue. There, officers found a car that had been hit by gunfire, police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed a male suspect shot at a vehicle and then fled the scene,” Dandoy said.

It’s not clear if anyone was in the car, police said. No victims have come forward. Detectives are still trying to determine what prompted the shooting.

No suspects have been identified, Dandoy said.
