A man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Cambodia Town Sunday night, Long Beach police said.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. in the 1300 block of Alamitos Avenue, which is just north of where it crosses Anaheim Street, Long Beach Police Department Lt. Jonathan Cole said.

Police say the man was standing in the middle of Alamitos Avenue, outside of a crosswalk, when a vehicle headed northbound struck him. The driver then fled the scene, police said.

Officers arrived and found the man unconscious and suffering from serious injuries, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel also responded and transported the man to a hospital where he died, according to police, his age and name weren’t immediately available as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office works to notify his relatives.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
