A woman was killed in West Long Beach Thursday night when she was struck by a car whose driver fled the scene afterward, police said.
Police said the woman was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk in the area of Willow Street and Easy Avenue around 11 p.m. when the driver, who was traveling westbound on Willow Street, hit her at the intersection.
Authorities responded to the scene of the crash and transported the woman to a local hospital where she died from her injuries, police said. Her name was not immediately available as the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office works to notify her relatives.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman, meanwhile, fled the scene before officers arrived, and police are asking witnesses to come forward.
