Long Beach Planning Commissioners unanimously approved a permit Thursday night that paves the way for the Orange County-based Everywhere Brewing to take over a soon-to-be vacant storefront on Retro Row.
The brewery, which has another location in Orange, needed a conditional-use permit to open at the site on Fourth Street because it doesn’t intend to actually brew on-site. Instead, beer will continue to be produced at its Orange County location with to-go sales and on-site tasting to happen at the Long Beach storefront.
Everywhere Brewing plans to take over The Hangout’s location at 2122 E. Fourth Street. The owners of The Hangout announced earlier this year it would be moving the business to San Luis Obispo.
Some alterations are expected inside to create more room for seating. Everywhere Brewing’s plans submitted to the city call for a total of 137 seats in the over 3,500-square-foot space that is proposed to operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Coffee sales and pre-packaged food would be sold from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., according to the plans, with beer sales for on-site consumption starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 10:30 p.m.
The outdoor patio area would be required to close by 10 p.m. in an attempt to minimize noise, according to the conditions of approval.
Everywhere Brewing opened its Orange location in August 2022 after their ownership team departed from The Bruery in Placentia. Unlike The Bruery, which made its name for barrel-aged beers with exotic ingredients, Everywhere prides itself on its beers being drinkable and accessible.
Its Orange location’s menu includes pilsners, lagers, a variety of IPAs and “seltzies.”
While the Long Beach location is only expected to provide pre-packaged snacks because it won’t have a kitchen, outside food will be welcomed, according to the plans.
