A 23-year-old man was arrested by police after a security guard detained him for shooting a gun into the air in North Long Beach early Sunday.

Police responded to a shooting call at about 2 a.m on March 17 in the 2900 block of 55th Way near Davenport Park, according to Long Beach Police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy.

When officers arrived, they made contact with a security guard in the 5400 block of Paramount Boulevard, near the Friendly Village trailer park, who detained a suspect who admitted to firing a weapon into the air, Dandoy said.

Brian Diaz of Long Beach was taken into custody without incident and is being held on $35,000 bail.

He was booked on the following charges: negligently discharging a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a firearm without a permit.

No injuries or damages to the surrounding area have been reported.
