A man was wounded in a shooting at an apartment building near the Traffic Circle last night, according to Long Beach police.

Police didn’t immediately know a motive for the shooting, but they said the incident started when a man at the apartment complex got in an altercation with another man. The conflict then escalated into a shooting, Long Beach Police Department spokesman Brandon Fahey said.

The shooting was reported to police at about 12:15 a.m., and officers rushed to the scene on Garford Street near Clark Avenue.

The unidentified shooter fled before police arrived, Fahey said. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds to his upper body. He’s expected to survive, Fahey said.
