A vehicle pursuit in Long Beach on Thursday night ended in a crash and a shooting suspect being taken into custody.

The incident started with an argument just before 6:30 p.m. between two men who did not know each other but had a common acquaintance, LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

The suspect then fired shots at a home near 15th Street and Loma Avenue and fled, De Prez said. When police got there, they talked to the victim and a witness and found casings and marks where the bullets had hit.

They determined no one was injured and broadcast information about the suspect’s vehicle to other officers, she said.

When officers found the vehicle and tried to pull it over, the driver sped off and police pursued him, according to police. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into another car near the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Anaheim Street, Sgt. Alvino Herrera said.

No one in the crash was seriously hurt and officers recovered a handgun from the driver, according to Herrera.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Miles Carr from Long Beach. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, felony reckless evading and armed criminal action. He is being held in the Long Beach Jail on a $1 million bail, De Prez said.
