Police say SWAT officers arrested a 17-year-old boy who refused to get out of a stolen vehicle that officers found near Poly High School Wednesday morning.

Officers located the stolen vehicle with the boy inside just before 9 a.m. in the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The officers tried to get him to get out of the vehicle, but he remained inside, police said. SWAT officers were eventually called to the scene.

A spokesperson with the Long Beach Unified School District said Poly High School went on precautionary lockdown.

“Poly High School notified families of the lockdown incident to keep them appraised of the situation, inform them that the school community was not impacted and that everyone on the Poly campus remained safe during the incident,” LBUSD spokesperson Elvia Cano said.

Eventually, the SWAT officers were able to take the boy into custody, according to police, who described him only as a male juvenile.

Police did not provide further details about the incident, including whether they believe he stole the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
