Police are asking for help identifying a man who raped a 16-year-old girl in the Historic South-Central area of Los Angeles after following her there from Long Beach.

The man and the victim reportedly boarded the same Metro train in Downtown Long Beach at about 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The two, who were not known to each other, rode the train northbound to the Los Angeles area, where they both transitioned to a Metro bus.

The man and the victim got off the bus near San Pedro Street and East Vernon Avenue, where the man approached the girl from behind and grabbed her around the neck, police said. He forced the girl to the parking lot of an apartment building, where he threatened to kill her and then raped her before fleeing the scene.

The suspect was described as a roughly 35-year-old man, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with a muscular build, black dreadlocks and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information on the suspect was asked to contact the LAPD Juvenile Division at 213-486-0570. Calls made during non-business hours or on weekends can be directed to 877-527-3247. Anonymous tips can be called to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
