Long Beach police arrested a possibly armed man suspected of violating a restraining order early Wednesday morning in the city’s North Alamitos Beach neighborhood, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of East 6th Street at 1:57AM on Wednesday, March 16 regarding a possible restraining order violation, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokesman Brad Johnson said. Police were also advised that the suspect was possibly armed with a handgun, he added.

“Upon their arrival officers saw a possible suspect who ran from them and proceeded to jump over fences in the area,” Johnson said.

A perimeter/containment area was quickly set up by assisting officers and a SWAT team was eventually activated.

Police located and safely took the suspect into custody at 7:55AM. A handgun was found in the area where the suspect was last seen fleeing from officers, according to Johnson.

Officials believe the suspect is the ex-boyfriend of the person who called for help.

The investigation remains ongoing.
