A 54-year-old man who worked at a private school in Long Beach was sentenced yesterday to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage boy at one of the sports camps the defendant ran in Seal Beach.

Scott Anthony Durzo, owner of Scott Durzo’s Total Sport Camp, pleaded guilty Dec. 14 to nine counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor younger than 14, seven counts of lewd acts on a child age 14 or 15, and one count of sodomy of a person younger than 16, all felonies.

In exchange for his plea, two counts of lewd acts on a child age 14 or 15 were dropped, along with one count of exhibiting lewd material to a minor.

Durzo accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Whitney Bokosky.

Durzo sexually assaulted the victim, starting when the boy was 13 in the summer of 2005 and continuing through 2009, Deputy District Attorney Bobby Taghavi said when the charges were filed in 2014.

The victim came forward that year to report the defendant, who met the boy when he took part in one of the defendant’s sports camps, Taghavi said.

Durzo also worked at Westerly School of Long Beach where he oversaw an after-school program, according to a lawsuit filed in 2016 against Durzo and the school.

Last year, a jury awarded a $25.5 million verdict against Durzo and the school, which was accused of failing to stop Durzo’s abuse.
