Police say a man turned himself in after shooting a woman to death outside her workplace in the California Heights neighborhood of Long Beach Monday morning.

Officers were first alerted to the crime when someone called around 7:50 a.m. to report a woman bleeding next to a car in the 700 block of East Wardlow Road, which is just east of Atlantic Avenue.

Police soon arrived and discovered the woman had been shot, according to the LBPD. Medics from the Long Beach Fire Department determined she was dead. Authorities later identified her as Adriana Silva, 36, of Paramount.

The suspected shooter, 47-year-old Paramount resident Jose Luis Vidal, soon turned himself into sheriff’s deputies in Paramount, according to the LBPD.

Detectives are still investigating a motive for the shooting, but police said Vidal and the Silva had been dating and “were recently experiencing problems in their relationship.”

Police said they believe Silva had arrived for work in Cal Heights Monday morning when Vidal confronted her inside her parked car. They were both in the car when Vidal shot her and then fled the scene before turning himself in, police allege.

Vidal is now being held on $2 million bail, police said. Detectives are expected to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for prosecutors to consider charges later this week.
