Long Beach police were investigating reports of gunfire in North Long Beach Wednesday night when a man arrived and told them he’s the one who’d been shot, according to authorities.

Officers were investigating near 68th Street and Orange Avenue around 11 p.m., Officer Alvino Herrera said. They initially couldn’t find a victim or a crime scene, but while they were there, the victim arrived and told them he’d just been released from a local hospital, Herrera said.

He had a gunshot wound to his upper body that wasn’t life-threatening, police said.

The victim said a relative had taken him to the hospital, where he was treated and released, according to Herrera. Police could not immediately say why they weren’t notified by the hospital about the gunshot victim.

The victim could not give officers any suspect information or details about the incident, Herrera said.
