Police are investigating a shooting that left a man and woman hospitalized and three vehicles damaged by gunfire in the city’s waterfront area early Sunday.

Officers responded to the shooting at 3:18 a.m. today at a parking lot near Pierpoint Landing, at 200 Aquarium Way.

When the officers arrived, they found “numerous casings of various caliber and three struck vehicles,” police Lt. James Richardson said.

No victims were immediately located, but as officers continued their investigation police found out that a man “self transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper torso,” Richardson said.

Later on, police found out a woman had also arrived at a local hospital with a non-life threatening gun shot wound to her upper body as well.

Both victims are in stable condition, according to Richardson.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. The incident prompted a response by detectives who are continuing the investigation.
