Police are investigating after a shooting in West Long Beach left two men wounded Wednesday night.

The gunfire was reported around 8:50 p.m. near Santa Fe Avenue and Burnett Street, Long Beach police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.

Police said officers found bullet casings in the area and soon learned family members had taken one of the wounded men to a nearby hospital. Officers found the second victim in a nearby home, and he was taken to the hospital by medics, Dandoy said.

Both had been shot in the lower body and had wounds that weren’t life-threatening, she said.

Police are still investigating the shooting and looking for suspects, but detectives believe it may have been gang related, meaning they suspect it was carried out “for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with” a gang.
