Signal Hill police arrest Applebee’s employee on suspicion of placing a camera in restroom

Signal Hill police have arrested an employee of Applebee’s restaurant whom they believe placed a camera inside an employee restroom at the eatery.

Edgar Garcia-Franco, 49, was arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of invasion of privacy, authorities said.

Signal Hill police were dispatched the restaurant at 899 E. Spring St. on Sunday after an employee found a video camera in the restroom.

“The camera was used to capture footage of various employees inside the restroom,” police said, adding that there is no evidence that patrons of the restaurant were videotaped.

Applebee’s employees and management are cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing, police said.

Anyone who feels they are victim of this crime should contact Det. Nick Butler at 562-989-7219.
