UPDATE | Investigators originally believed the man had been stabbed but later determined the wounds were self-inflicted, police said on Thursday, Oct. 11.

PREVIOUSLY| A man was hospitalized after being stabbed in North Long Beach Sunday night, and police are still looking for whoever is responsible, according to authorities.

The stabbing happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of Atlantic Avenue, which is just south of Market Street, police said.

When officers got there, they found the wounded man on a sidewalk, LBPD Officer Ben Hearst said. Anyone involved in the stabbing had already fled by the time officers arrived, Hearst said.

Medics took the wounded man to a local hospital where he’s expected to survive, according to police.

Investigators don’t yet know of any motive for the attack, Hearst said.
