A man was stabbed near the Carmelitos Housing Project Saturday afternoon, but he refused to cooperate with investigators, according to authorities.

Police said they were called to the attack around 4:30 p.m. and found the man, who’d been stabbed in the torso, in the 800 block of Via Wanda.

He told officers he’d been stabbed nearby, in the 5200 block of Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach police spokesman Benjamin Hearst said.

Medics took the man to a local hospital to treat him for injuries that didn’t appear to be life-threatening, Hearst said.

Police said they believe the stabbing may be gang-related, but they had little other info. No details on a motive or a suspect description were available, Hearst said.

Police asked anyone with information to contact gang investigators at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
