A man was transported to the hospital after he was stabbed early Sunday in an attempted robbery in Central Long Beach, according to police.

Close to 2 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of east 10th Street near Alamitos and Martin Luther King, Jr., avenues, and found the victim suffering from stab wounds to the upper body, according to police.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said their investigation revealed the victim was confronted by a man who attempted to rob him when he was stabbed. The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction before officers arrived, police said.
