An argument over a parking spot in an alley ended with a man being stabbed Tuesday night, authorities said.

Long Beach police were called to 10th Street and Gaviota Avenue at about 11:20 p.m. when someone reported a stabbing victim in the alley behind a home, according to the department.

The man had a non-life-threatening stab wound to his upper body, spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the victim and an adult male suspect were involved in a verbal dispute over a parking spot in the area a short time prior, where the suspect brandished a knife toward the victim, resulting in the stabbing,” she said.

The suspect fled in a red vehicle, but officers later found it about two blocks away near 10th Street and Walnut Avenue, De Prez said.

Police said they arrested 18-year-old Ismael Vazquez of Long Beach on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at Long Beach Jail on $30,000 bail, according to the LBPD.

It is unclear if the suspect and the victim knew each other prior to the confrontation.
