A man was knocked to the ground and stabbed Monday night while he was walking near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Pine Avenue, police said.

The man took himself to the hospital after the attack, which was shortly before 11 p.m., according to authorities. The man was being treated for stab wounds to his upper torso at the hospital when Long Beach police officers were dispatched to talk with him.

“The victim was uncooperative during the investigation and could not provide a description for the suspect or suspects,” Sgt. Vincent Otto said.

Police do not yet know if the victim and attackers knew each other and are treating the incident as gang related.

The LBPD defines gang-related crimes as any crime committed “for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with any criminal street gang.”
