A Sunday night pursuit in Long Beach involving a stolen vehicle driven by a girl led to a collision with a car that sent its driver to a local hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

Police came into contact with the stolen Toyota Camry at 7:15PM near New York Street and Atlantic Avenue on Sunday, March 13, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

When officers attempted pull the vehicle over, the driver failed to yield and fled and a pursuit ensued. During the chase, the Camry collided with another vehicle near 10th Street and Ximeno Avenue, according to Arrona.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel transported the female driver—the only occupant of the other vehicle—to a local hospital in stable condition. The woman, who was driving a small white sedan, sustained serious injuries, LBPD police Lt. Kevin Coy said.

The suspect vehicle occupants—both juvenile females—were detained and also transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The stolen vehicle was also suspected of being involved in an earlier assault with a deadly weapon call, she added.

“The earlier assault call involved subjects, within the suspect vehicle, pointing a handgun at a victim,” Arrona said.

The investigations remain ongoing.
