Long Beach officers arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to run over a motorcycle officer and led police in a short pursuit late Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident began when a woman flagged down a motorcycle officer at about 4:20PM on Friday, January 15, near 10th Street and Redondo Avenue, and told him a male suspect allegedly slashed the tires of her vehicle with a knife and was following her, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokesman Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

The officer then found the suspect in a vehicle and attempted to detain him but the suspect then accelerated the vehicle, allegedly attempting to run the officer over, and fled, according to Johnson.

Officers chased the suspect vehicle to Fifth Street and Roycroft Avenue where the suspect abandons his vehicle and runs. Officers eventually caught and arrested the suspect without incident.

Johnson said neither the suspect nor the officers were injured.

The investigation remains ongoing.
