SWAT officer surrounded a West Long Beach home early Saturday morning after a domestic violence suspect holed up inside, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said a woman called them around 6:19 a.m. after she ran away from a man who’d assaulted her near Canal Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.

When officers arrived, they saw the man flee into a house, according to the LBPD.

“Officers established a perimeter around the home and attempted to call out the suspect, but he did not respond,” police said.

Police called in SWAT officers, who negotiated with the suspect, evacuated some nearby homes and told other neighbors to shelter in place.

Amid the negotiations, the suspect surrendered and was arrested, police said.

Police said the woman who’d been assaulted was treated by medics at the scene for minor injuries.
