A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Thursday night after being shot during an argument in Long Beach’s Wrigley neighborhood, police said.

Police say the shooting was reported just after 9 p.m.

The boy, according to police, was in the 2300 block of Locust Avenue when an unknown man approached him. An argument broke out between them and the man shot the boy in the lower body, according to the LBPD.

Authorities were then called to the area of 25th Street and Earl Avenue, about a half-mile north of the 2300 block of Locust Avenue, where they found the boy suffering from the gunshot wound, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that he is expected to survive.

Officers canvassed the area where the boy told them the shooting happened but were unable to locate a crime scene, evidence or suspects, according to the department. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
