Three people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol were arrested during a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint held in Long Beach Friday night, authorities announced.
The checkpoint, conducted by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Traffic Section, was held at the intersection of Long Beach and Del Amo boulevards, between 7:00PM and 2:00AM, officials stated.
The checkpoint resulted in the following:
- 213 vehicles screened
- 3 DUI-alcohol suspects arrested
- 14 drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or while a license is suspended/revoked
If caught driving impaired, drivers can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, officials stated.
Officials encourage the use the California Office of Traffic Safety Designated Driver VIP (DDVIP) mobile app, which is now available for mobile download. Through the app, users will be able to locate establishments that offer incentives for participating in the app, which helps users order a sober ride from Uber, Lyft or Curb, all on one screen.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
