In the bottom of the ninth inning of the 2016 election, Donald Trump prevailed.

Today, Trump secured the number of electoral votes necessary to officially clinch the presidency.

He prevailed despite attempts by Long Beach’s own former city staffer Daniel Brezenoff to convince members of the Electoral College otherwise—to vote for Clinton or a Republican other than Trump.

“We didn’t win. But that doesn’t mean we lost,” wrote Brezenoff in a Facebook post. “Six conscientious electors is the most ever in our history – ties with the election of James Madison! Two Texans refused to support Trump. This is a big deal!”

Brezenoff hailed the attention his record-shattering Change.org petition and subsequent Political Action Committee (aimed at swaying electoral votes) attracted, emphasizing the beginnings of a conversation regarding reforming the Electoral College.

“We’ve brought crucial attention to our undemocratic election system,” wrote Brezenoff. “We’ve built a nationwide network of progressives, moderates, and responsible conservatives. And I promise: We are just getting started.”

The petition’s 4.9 million signatures made it the largest Change.org petition ever, garnering support from celebrities like Lady Gaga, Pink, Jeffrey Wright, Laverne Cox, Gigi Hadid, Sia, Amanda Seyfried, Rosie Perez, k.d. lang, Alyssa MilanoGuillermo Diaz and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

Even Mayor Robert Garcia, Brezenoff’s former boss, said he supported the conversation surrounding the petition’s question.

“I’ve always believed in one person, one vote,” said Garcia of Electoral College reform. “As a Californian, I’m not crazy about the fact that my vote isn’t the same as those in other states. We have Daniel’s petition, and a conversation around it, and I think it’s great.”

Besides securing interviews at major media outlets like The Washington Post and NPR, Brezenoff has been busy working with high-profile supporters and volunteers, who’ve spent time lobbying existing electors.

Today, he journeyed to the Texas State Capitol, Austin, with a group of protesters rallying in one last self-described “Hail Mary” attempt to change the electors’ votes and outcome of the election.

While Brezenoff was in Texas,

He appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show at 4:00PM, and ended his bid with a message nodding to his quest being far from over: “More to come, stay tuned…”
