A man and two women headed to the hospital under their own power after being shot in West Long Beach Friday evening, according to police.

Police said the gunfire happened at about 6:55 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Spring Street. The three victims were there when a car pulled up and at least one person inside fired at them, hitting all three in the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“The vehicle fled in an unknown direction before officers arrived on scene,” police said. Officers at first didn’t find any victims, but later learned they’d headed to the hospital themselves, according to the LBPD.

A police spokesman said the victims were not forthcoming with information about the shooting, so many details remain unclear. All three are expected to survive their wounds.

“No other injuries were reported,” police said. “The motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.”

A detailed description of the suspect vehicle wasn’t available, and it’s unclear how many people were inside.
