Two people were arrested on drunk driving charges during a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint conducted by Long Beach police Saturday night, authorities said.

The checkpoint was conducted between 7:00PM and 3:00AM on Saturday, February 20 at Pacific Coast Highway and Santiago Avenue.

Saturday’s checkpoint resulted in the following:

  • 622 vehicles screened
  • Three field sobriety tests performed
  • Two DUI-alcohol suspects arrested
  • 10 drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked
  • Five citations issued for unsafe driving

“According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent,” a released from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) stated.
