Two men were arrested in South Los Angeles Friday and charged with the murder of 24-year-old Chris Lane, who was shot and killed at 59th St. and Linden Ave. on February 21.

Two weeks after the daytime murder of Lane, Long Beach police detectives arrested David Smith, a 25-year-old resident of Long Beach, and James Smith, a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach, in the 400 block of W. Century Blvd in the City of Los Angeles.

Both have been charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancement charges and are each being held on $1,000,000 bail at the Long Beach Jail.

Lane’s death was the second of three gang-related youth murders to occur in North Long Beach during the month of February, shootings that prompted an impromptu town hall meeting to address the spike in violence. Arrests have still not been made in connection with the February 10 murder of 22-year-old Robert Anthony Proano nor the February 22 death of 20-year-old Chris Franklin.
