Two people were arrested and nine others were cited during a DUI checkpoint in Downtown Long Beach over the Labor Day weekend.

The Long Beach Police Department’s Traffic Section conducted the checkpoint on Saturday from 7PM to 3AM in the area of Ocean Boulevard and Pacific Avenue, police said.

During the operation, 1,633 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 544 drivers being screened.

Police said four standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, one driver was arrested for a DUI, one driver was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant, three drivers were cited for unlicensed driving, two drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license and four drivers were cited for unsafe driving, police said.

Funding for the program was provided to the LBPD by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Safety Administration.
