Two men were shot within a 24-hour period and just over a mile apart from each other in a pair of unrelated shootings in Long Beach over the weekend, authorities said.

The first shooting happened on Saturday, December 5 when a man was struck in the torso while driving near 20th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, according to a preliminary investigation.

Police responded to the shooting call on the 2000 block of Atlantic Avenue at 5:30PM, said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

The victim was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and listed in stable condition, Pratt said.

The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related. Anyone with information should contact the Gang Enforcement Section at 562.570.7370.

On Sunday, December 6, officers responded to a shooting at 6:00AM on the 1000 block of Myrtle Avenue.

A man was located with a gunshot wound to the torso and was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.

Authorities said the victim was in the alley at the time he was struck.

No suspect information is currently available and it is unknown if the incident is gang-related.
