County authorities today identified the man who was killed in an apartment in Downtown Long Beach over the weekend.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office confirmed the victim was Charles Ogletree, 42.
Ogletree was killed Sunday in an apartment on Atlantic Avenue near Broadway. Long Beach Police Department officers were called there at approximately 9:30 p.m. for a report of gunshots in the area, according to police.
“Upon arrival, officers were directed by citizens to an apartment unit … where they located a male adult victim inside suffering from multiple gunshots to his upper and lower body,” police said.
When homicide detectives began to investigate, “they discovered that a small group of persons was gathered inside the apartment when an argument erupted between the victim and a male adult suspect,” police said in a statement. “The argument escalated when the suspect produced and discharged a firearm multiple times toward the victim, striking him and causing the injuries that ultimately resulted in his death.”
No other injuries were reported. No description was released of the suspect other than to say he’s believed to have fled on foot immediately after the shooting.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 562-570-7244 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
