A man fatally shot Monday morning near downtown Long Beach has been identified by authorities.

Long Beach resident Douglas Wilson, 37, was declared dead at 8:51AM on Monday, June 22 the coroner’s office said Tuesday.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers were dispatched near the 800 block of Cedar Avenue at about 8:45AM, with regard to a shooting, LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

Authorities found Wilson dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, officials stated in a press release.

The shooting prompted the closure of nearby streets for most of the day as well as the assistance of a SWAT Team, officials said. Nearby residents voluntarily evacuated during the tactical operation as well.

No one is in custody and no suspect information is available. The motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
