A string of shootings throughout Long Beach over the Christmas weekend—specifically Thursday, Saturday and Sunday—resulted in one critical injury, multiple damaged vehicles and a recovered gun, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). One of the incidents is being investigated as possibly gang-related. 

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 24

Officers were dispatched at 7:12PM to Veterans Memorial Park, on the 100 block of East 28th Street, regarding a shots heard call, discovering no evidence of a shooting and no one with injuries, according to authorities.

However, police did recover a gun, LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

That same evening, at 10:16PM, officers were dispatched to a shooting call near East 14th Street and Walnut Avenue in the city’s Eastside neighborhood.

Police found damage to two parked vehicles, Arrona said.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26

On Saturday, police were dispatched at 9:21PM to 10th Street and Walnut Avenue regarding a shots heard call, officials said. 

Officers discovered evidence of a shooting near Eighth Street and Rose Avenue, but no one with injuries.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 27

One Sunday, officers were dispatched to Willow Street and Maine Avenue at 12:41PM regarding a shots heard call, where they found one woman with gunshot injuries to her upper torso, according to Arrona. 

Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.

At 1:12AM, police were dispatched to a shots heard call in the 300 block of West Willow Street, during which they located a damaged vehicle.

LBPD officials continue to investigate the incidents.
