A 66-year-old Long Beach woman was arrested Thursday morning for firing a gun inside her home, which she thought was being broken into, authorities said.
Long Beach police officers first headed to her home in the 700 block of East 15th Street in a neighborhood just south of Poly High School when a possible shooting was reported shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, authorities said.
The woman told officers that she though her home was being broken into, prompting her to fire the gun, according to the Long Beach Police Department. After officers found no evidence of a break-in, they took the woman into custody on suspicion of negligently discharging a firearm, police said. The only damage found was from the round or rounds fired by the woman, according to the LBPD.
Police said no injuries were reported, but officers seized a gun at the home. The investigation is ongoing.
The woman’s bail was set at $0 and she could be released from custody soon, said Arantxa Chavarria, a spokesman for the department.
