A woman was found stabbed on a North Long Beach sidewalk on Tuesday night, eventually dying from her injuries, said Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials investigating the incident.

According to authorities, the Long Beach Fire Department received a battery call and report of an injured woman at 11:20PM on Tuesday, July 7, in the 5500 block of Long Beach Boulevard.

Fire officials then requested a response from police who found a black woman, about 25 years old, on the ground and unresponsive.

Officers began life-saving measures until fire personnel arrived and continued the measures. The woman was then transported to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries, authorities said.

Homicide detectives responding to the incident later discovered the victim had been stabbed in the upper torso. The preliminary investigation also revealed that an adult black man was seen fleeing the area after the assault.

Her name was withheld pending notification of kin.

No arrests have been made and the investigation in ongoing. The motive for the attack is unknown.
