A woman was hospitalized Tuesday night after being shot while inside her home near the Wrigley neighborhood, according to Long Beach police.
Police say the shooting occurred around 8:46 p.m. in the 2200 block of Locust Avenue. The woman was inside her residence when she was suddenly struck by gunfire from an unknown direction, police said. It is not clear whether the gun was fired from inside or outside the residence, police said.
Reports described the incident as an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived in the area, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries and is expected to survive, police said.
Police have not yet identified suspects or a motive, and the investigation is ongoing.
