A 20-year-old woman was sentenced yesterday to 10 years and eight months in state prison for attacking a teen boy’s pregnant girlfriend last year in order to induce a miscarriage.
Claudia Rodriguez pleaded no contest in August to one count each of attempted murder and kidnapping, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Co-defendant Candy Patricio, 20, pleaded no contest to attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. She was sentenced in August to 10 years and 10 months in state prison.
The victim’s boyfriend, Angel Contreras, who was then 17 and is now 19, pleaded no contest in June to attempted murder, kidnapping and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, according to the district attorney’s office. He was sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison.
Prosecutors said that on March 4, as the girlfriend walked to Contreras’ home she was allegedly accosted and punched in the stomach by Rodriguez and Patricio.
“Less than three weeks later, Contreras boarded a bus with his girlfriend and allegedly alerted Rodriguez and Patricio of their location so they could assault the victim again,” Davis said.
She was reportedly assaulted by Rodriguez and Patricio when she exited the bus. They also unsuccessfully tried to drag her into a car but a passerby saw the attack and saved the victim from being kidnapped, the prosecutor said.
District attorney officials also confirmed that three other teens were also convicted for their roles in the plot. They include: Makenna San Miguel, 19, who pleaded no contest to attempted murder and was sentenced to nine years in state prison, Jessica Florencia, 19, who pleaded no contest to attempted murder and was sentenced to seven years in state prison and Shannon Montano, 19, who pleaded no contest to kidnapping and was sentenced to five years of formal probation and 60 days of community service.
