A 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death this morning in Long Beach.
Officers were dispatched just before 3 a.m. Sunday to the 3500 block of Santa Fe Avenue, south of Wardlow Road, to a report of a possible burglary at a gated community and found a woman with stab wounds to her upper and lower body, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Arriving paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. She was identified as Alejandra Acosta Butron of Long Beach.
A man near the scene was detained by officers and later determined to be the suspect, according to the LBPD. He was identified as 24-year-old Leonard Lee Rowles Jr. of Long Beach.
Rowles was arrested and booked at the Long Beach City Jail, where he was being held on $2 million bail for suspicion of murder.
Detectives believe Rowles and Butron were in a dating relationship, but the circumstances leading up to the stabbing were still under investigation, police said.
Anyone with any information regarding the homicide was urged to call detectives Michael Hutchinson or Lisette Temblador at 562-570-7244.
