Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on campus Friday morning at the north side of Parking Structure 1, near the Walter Pyramid.

“While early information indicates he is not a current student, conclusive information will not be available until after the proper authorities have had time to complete a thorough investigation,” said CSULB President Jane Close Conoley in an email to campus community Friday afternoon.

All entries to the structure were closed between 7:55AM and 8:59AM, with police caution tape surrounding the area. Campus officials directed incoming cars to parking lots 13 and 14 during the closure, including guests attending the 50th anniversary celebration of the Educational Opportunity Program.

At around 8:45AM, campus officials removed a white tent at the north entrance, revealing a white powder-like substance on the floor.

Close Conoley reminded students that counselors are available through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), located at Brotman Hall, room 226 or on the phone at (562) 985-4001, and faculty and staff can make an appointment with a university Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) counselor at (562) 985-7434.
