A CVS Pharmacy and two people were cited on Saturday in an undercover operation to deter underage drinking, police said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The Long Beach Police Department’s (LBPD) Vice Investigations Section worked with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to perform two different types of operations throughout the city.

The first was the Statewide Shoulder Tap Operation, in which police focus on individuals who attempt to purchase alcohol for minor decoys.

During that operation, minors under the age of 21, under the supervision of the LBPD, approached customers outside of businesses and requested they purchase alcohol on their behalf.

The businesses did not know an undercover operation was underway, police said.

Out of 47 attempts made, two people were issued citations for purchasing alcohol for a minor.

In the second operation, minor decoys targeted employees of ABC licensed establishments that sold alcohol to minors and attempted to purchase alcohol, while supervised by the LBPD.

Out of nine establishments visited, one, a CVS Pharmacy located at 4570 Atlantic Avenue, was cited for an employee selling alcohol to a minor.

“These operations are conducted with the community’s safety in mind,” police said in a statement. “The LBPD will continue to enforce ABC laws at all establishments throughout the city and wants to remind everyone there are consequences for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.”

Anyone wishing to report illegal behavior relating to the unlawful sale of alcohol should contact the Vice Investigations Section at 562-570-7219.
