6:01 am | A documentary about the port’s first 100 years will be shown for the first time at the Port of Long Beach’s upcoming centennial birthday party on June 25, port officials said.

Faces of the Port – Celebrating 100 Years is a 30-minute film narrated by actor Robert Wagner. Two screenings of the film will be offered at the port’s 100th anniversary celebration, in addition to carnival rides, exhibits and more.

Space is limited for the 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. screenings, and all who plan to attend a viewing are asked to reserve a spot by clicking here.

The first screening will be followed by a history panel discussion with individuals featured in the documentary, including former Mayor Beverly O’Neill, former Police Chief and Port Security Director Bill Ellis, Jacobsen Pilot Service President Tom Jacobsen and ILWU veteran Tony Salcido. The panel will be moderated by maritime reporter George Cunningham.

The complete schedule of activities planned as part of the birthday party, which runs from 2:30 to 8 p.m., is as follows:

  • 2:30 p.m. Event begins, exhibits open to public.
  • 3 p.m. Premiere screening of Faces of the Port – Celebrating 100 Years.
  • 3:30 p.m. “Let’s Talk Centennial,” a history panel discussion.
  • 4:15 p.m. Second screening of Faces of the Port – Celebrating 100 Years.
  • 5:15 p.m. Centennial presentations with Robert Wagner.
  • 5:45 p.m. Centennial cupcakes.
  • 6 p.m. Concert performance by the Long Beach Municipal Band.


The 100th Birthday Party will be held on the docks on Pier E, just south of the Gerald Desmond Bridge, at Ocean Boulevard and Pico Avenue. Free parking and a bicycle valet will be available.
