6:45am | Anyone contemplating purchasing a boat this summer should mark their calendars for Saturday, when the U.S. Sailing Center of Long Beach will host its annual Boats and Marine Gear “Yard Sail.”
The sailing center’s Glennon Stratton said that all proceeds from the sale are used to fund community sailing programs offered at the center.
Available for purchase Saturday, June 18, between 6 a.m. and noon will be an array of boats and various types of marine gear, including anchors, apparel, dinghies, hardware, safety gear, sailboards, sails, inflatables, keel boats, outboard motors, electronics and more, Stratton said.
The sailing center, a nonprofit public benefit corporation, also accepts donations of items to sell at the “Yard Sail.”
“So feel free to clean out your garage by making a tax-deductible donation of your unwanted boats and marine gear,” he said.
Providing sailing opportunities to all members of the community is the center’s main goal, and it accomplishes this by providing facilities, equipment, programs and more.
Stratton said that “all members of the community” means all residents regardless of experience or skill; its programs are designed for everyone from at-risk youth and the disabled to high school and college students and Olympic sailors.
The U.S. Sailing Center of Long Beach is located at 5489 E. Ocean Blvd. near the beginning of the Peninsula. Additional information can be obtained by calling 562-433-7939 or by visiting USSCLB.org.
