Extreme heat over the weekend seemed to be the likely cause of a power outage in parts of Long Beach Sunday night, during which 1,800 customers were initially impacted, according to Southern California Edison (SCE) officials.

The power outage was reported at 7:46PM on Sunday, August 30, in the Bixby Knolls area.

Within 20 minutes troublemen—SCE’s first responders—were able to reduce the number of impacted customers from 1,800 to 67, SCE spokesman David Song said.

The remaining 67 customers had their power restored at 5:39AM on Monday, August 31.

This is the fifth significant power outage in Long Beach this summer.

The first two power outages were caused by electrical fires in underground vaults that led to the explosion of manhole covers—which Edison is in the process of tethering.

Edison has begun an investigation into the power outages and state legislative representatives have also called on the California Public Utilities Commission for a review of the causes of the power outages.
