A truck spilled cement, hydraulic fluid and oil across lanes of Cherry Avenue Wednesday morning when the driver came off the 405 Freeway too fast and tipped over, according to police.

Authorities said the crash happened around 7:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of Cherry. The driver had just exited the southbound 405 when he lost control and the cement truck overturned, Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

Crews shut down a stretch of southbound Cherry for hours while they cleaned up the mess. It was expected to reopen around 11:30 a.m., Pratt said.

The driver came away unscathed and nobody else was involved in the crash. Police wrote him a ticket for driving at an unsafe speed, Pratt said.
