Police say a 35-year-old Los Angeles man was killed in a rollover crash between an SUV and a pickup truck Tuesday morning in East Long Beach.

The crash happened shortly before 7:35 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Wardlow Road and Palo Verde Avenue, according to Long Beach police.

Police said a 2002 Toyota SUV was heading eastbound on Wardlow Road when it ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a 2014 Toyota pickup truck heading southbound on Palo Verde Avenue through a green light.

The collision caused the SUV to roll over, ejecting the driver, police said. The SUV’s driver, identified only as a 35-year-old Los Angeles man pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said speed and distracted driving were factors in the crash.

A 41-year-old Lakewood woman, who was driving the pickup truck, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the collision was asked to contact LBPD Detective David Dougherty at 562-570-7355.
