West Long Beach can expect a DUI/drivers license checkpoint somewhere in the area from Saturday night to the early hours of Sunday morning.

At the checkpoint, planned for between 7:00PM and 3:00AM, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers will be on the lookout for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, as well as proper licensing. Those caught driving under the influence can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can add up to more than $10,000.

DUI checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, according to the LBPD.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided to the LBPD by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
