While we love our libations, we certainly don’t advocate any dangerous or idiotic behavior, which is precisely why we are informing you that there will be a DUI checkpoint headed by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) this coming Saturday, August 30, in West Long Beach.
The checkpoint, which will also be checking for valid drivers licenses, will be implemented between the hours of 7:00PM and 3:00AM on Sunday morning.
“Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions in Long Beach have claimed 9 lives and resulted in 315 injury crashes harming 420 of our friends and neighbors,” said LBPD Sergeant Aaron Alu in a statement.
The cost of those excess drinks won’t amount to just the total of your tab should you get caught. The impact of a DUI arrest can include jail time, fines and fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10K (that’s ten thousand tacos at Holé Molé), and as LBPD points out, the embarrassment when your close ones have to respond to a call from the LA County Department of Corrections (don’t forget the lovely conversation you’ll be having with your employer, friends, and other family members considering your license will be suspended).
Don’t drink and drive. It’s that simple.
